Free Year 6 to Year 7 Maths Transition Kit: 10 Pick-and-Choose Activities

Pick-and-choose — not a fixed 10-day scheme. Use one activity or run a carousel.

Not a ten-day scheme — a menu of ten standalone activities you can drop in whenever you need one great lesson. Each task is engaging and interactive (agents, elevators, auctions, escape rooms…) with full teacher notes and a photocopiable pupil sheet where pupils need to record their work, plus optional stretch questions.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a full Year 6 transition scheme of work?

No. It is a menu of ten standalone activities. You can run one for a 25-minute slot, two for an afternoon carousel, or three across a transition morning — in any order you like.

Who is the transition kit for?

Year 6 teachers after SATs, primary transition leads, secondary maths departments welcoming new Year 7 pupils, and anyone running summer school or holiday maths sessions.

What is in the free PDF download?

A single PDF with teacher guidance for all ten activities, plus printable pupil sheets (or a short record card for the elevator activity). Each activity includes optional stretch questions.

Do I have to teach the activities in order?

No. Every activity is self-contained with its own teacher notes and pupil material. Choose by topic, energy level, or time available.

Is this an official exam board or DfE resource?

No. It is a free teaching pack from The Maths Vault for UK schools. Always follow your own school transition plan and advice from your maths lead.
