Objective
Each round has six questions. The rate stays the same unless the question says the proportion is inverse. Win with at least 5 out of 6. All six with no hints is a perfect round.
Direct proportion
- Divide to find the value of one.
- Multiply by the number you want.
- Five apples for 80p means one apple is 16p, so seven cost 112p.
Best buy
Divide the price by the number of items, or by the number of 100g. The lower price per item is better value. If they match, choose Same value.
Ratio, maps and recipes
- To share in a ratio, add the parts, divide the total, then multiply by the share you need.
- A recipe or a journey scales the same way as a shop price.
- On a map, multiply the centimetres by what one centimetre represents.
Inverse proportion
Hard questions include inverse proportion. When one amount goes up, the other goes down. Multiply the pair you know, then divide by the new amount. For an enlargement, square the scale factor before you scale the area.
Money
If the question asks for pence, type a whole number of pence. If it asks for pounds, euros or dollars, type the amount with two decimal places, such as 1.12.
Daily challenge
Everyone receives the same six Classic questions. They reset at midnight UK. The first win of the day counts for the league and your streak.
